 "Love it. Didn't hesitate to buy a 2nd" 2010-08-21

This stereo has all the features I was looking for, is from a brand I know and trust, and all at a good price. When I got my '96 Camry, it came with an older Pioneer stereo that was decent, but it didn't support mp3/wmv data discs and I wasn't about to haul my music collection around on 200 discs. Now I can fit my music collection (~14GB) on 20 discs and all of my favorites will fit on 1 disc. I generally average ~20 hrs of music per data disc, so there have been times where I'll have the same CD in my stereo for over a week and never listen to the same track twice.

The HD radio is nice, but it will be much better once all of the stations have caught on and taken advantage of it's features (some stations still don't have any HD channels and some have HD but don't broadcast track/album/artist information). HD sub-stations (ie, 103.7 will has 2 stations to choose from instead of 1) are nice because usually when one station is on a commercial break, another will still be playing music.

The USB port works great for using my iPhone 4 to play music and/or use GPS through my car speakers and also works as a car charger for my phone & bluetooth). When you plug an iPhone/iPod in, iPod controls switch from the phone to the stereo, so you can use the remote if you'd like (it's possible to keep it from switching control to the stereo, so you can still control use the iPhone to browse your faves, but I was distracted so I'm not sure how I did it, will update if I figure it out). With the USB port, you can also plug in a flash drive and play the music from it (8GB FAT32 works, haven't tried larger sizes or other file systems). The aux port works for using your iPhone/iPod to control the music, but volume & clarity isn't as good as when using the USB port.

One of my favorite features is the Quick-Browzer, which lets you scroll through from album to album, then track to track, making it much easier to find that song you're looking for.

It is true that the blue lights are brighter & more noticeable than the green display lights, but I live in a decent sized city in CA and with the city lights, even at 12am - 4am, the brighter blue lights aren't a distraction. Even when driving around in darker, rural areas, I've never felt the need to switch to the green display. My one minor complaint with the lights is that pretty much every Sony stereo I've seen has the option of red display lights, but this one doesn't.

Tl;dr: It's great, I love it. When my faceplate & remote were stolen, I didn't hesitate to order a 2nd of these from Amazon (getting a whole new stereo here was cheaper than getting just the faceplate & remote from Sony).

 "a little touchy" 2010-08-20

works well and I espeically like the ability to use a usb flash thumb drive to play music. The only thing is: I keep on changing the speker fade due to the fact a quick press of the main knob for volume will take you to the fade setting. Too sensitive for me. You also have to press another button to get back to the volume.

 "All grins" 2010-08-14

I never thought replacing a perfectly good CD player with this thing would make me so happy but it has. No more burning CD's just to listen to a few songs that I like - I just put them on a flash drive and boom...there it is. HD Radio is very nice too but I think it will take a little while for the broadcasters to make sense of it. Right now on the FM side existing radio stations have various sub-channels but I have no idea what they are, their format etc. and often it's a re-broadcast of their sister AM station.

One negative thing is I wish it would give the option of either showing the file name or the meta-data that contains the artist information etc. My newer MP3's have all the song's information embedded so those work fine, but for my older MP3's that I ripped (many from out of print vinyl) many years ago don't have any meta-data and the song name and artist is in the file name only. The way this player treats them is only to write "track 11" or whatever the order on the flash drive is. Ironically when I hit the magnify glass to search for songs, it shows their file name so unless I'm missing something I wish they would add this.

But really, for a $127 or whatever it costs now, this is a GREAT player. I was looking for something just 6 months ago and the cheapest thing I found with these features was well over $200.

 "Good, but not Solid" 2010-08-09
By Dan Can
The sound is great, all functions work as advertized. The only thing that held this product away from 5 stars was the faceplate itself. Sometimes the faceplate lights will go out, then I have to push on it to get it to display. I have gone over some of the bumpiest roads and it dosen't skip a beat. Overll I am satisfyed.
